This Monday, September 2nd, 2019 marks the day in which we celebrate the hard work of our employees, who are the heart and soul of our business. On this Labour Day, whether or not yours have the day off, make sure to do something special for them so that they know that they are valued and appreciated. Here are five ways to acknowledge their contributions:

Take Them Out For Lunch

Prior to Labour Day or during Labour week, take your team out on a date — a lunch date to be more specific. This acknowledgement will take more than just making a reservation, so make sure that prior to choosing on a restaurant you ask your staff about any dietary restrictions or allergies. Pick a restaurant based on these limitations to make everyone feel welcome.

Host An Awards Show

If you’ve watched the first episode of the second season of the TV show “The Office”, you know how this one goes. Create as many awards categories as you like, such as “World’s Best Boss” and buy the awards that you will be handing out to the winners. After you have everything you need for this celebration, decorate one of your office rooms with balloons and posters reading the name of the awards show. Preferably, schedule this ceremony after lunch break, when everyone if energized and happy.

Throw A BBQ Party

We recently threw a BBQ Party at Stitchy Lizard to say goodbye to our old location, and it was fantastic. Remind your employees your appreciation towards them by preparing ribs, mashed potatoes, and burgers on the grill for them. If your budget allows for it, decorate the area where the BBQ party will be taking place. Oh, and make sure that you also hand out drinks!

Give Them A Gift

Think of something that your employees will use in their everyday lives and gift it to them. It doesn’t need to be fancy and expensive as long as it’s something that will be of value to them. If you are having a hard time thinking about branded products that you can give out, start with the basics: Would your employees like a bigger backpack to fit their work laptops? Do your employees like a branded water bottle to remind them to keep hydrated at work? Is there anything on that they would like to own? Probably!

Cut The Work Day Short

This might not seem like a lot, but trust us, your employees will greatly appreciate it. There is nothing like a smooth commute back home and having the evening off to relax. Acknowledge your team’s efforts by letting them leave work earlier on the Friday before Labour Day weekend. Another way to do this is by letting your team add up their extra hours of work so they can take that Friday off.
